This series consists of the correspondence files for the Office of the Secretary. Included in this series are correspondence with Federal agencies, constituent units of the Department of Agriculture, companies and individuals; reports by the Secretary, Assistant Secretary, and Undersecretary; and memorandums, policy statements, and legislation. These files reflect a broad range of subjects in which the Department of Agriculture had been involved, including the plight of farmers during the Depression; farm relief programs; conservation, irrigation, and reclamation of land; rural credit; the effects of drought; results of research and development at Department of Agriculture facilities; wartime activities of the Department; postwar planning; international conferences; and farm legislation.
